CHILD HEALTH DAY OCTOBER 1, 2001

National Child Health Month is in October. National Child Health Day is on October 1, 2001. This year the focus will be "Children with Special Health Care Needs". The Maternal andChild Health Bureau will be sending out packets nationally to agencies and individuals to use in the promotion of Child Health Day and the upcoming Summit on Children with Special Health Care Needs on December 12-13 in Washington, DC, where Healthy People 2010 goals will be addressed. The packets can be downloaded off the MCHB website at www.os.dhhs.gov/hrsa/mchb or a packet can be requested from Gloria Weissman, at (301) 443-8999 or gweissman@hrsa.gov. The information can be used to help inform families, professional partners (pediatricians, family practitioners, therapists, teachers, social workers, for example), friends and neighbors, employers, insurance carriers, state and federal legislators, children's hospitals, state programs, and the media about the 12 million children and youth in this country who have special health care needs and the services they and their families require. Local New Mexico contact, Trish Thomas, can be reached at the Family Voices National Office, (505) 872-4774 or 1-888-835-5669.
