Beatriz Mitchell Visits NM P&A

Bea's back for a visit to New Mexico. Most of us remember Bea as the coordinator of the Parent Training and Information Project. Wherever there was a special education program that needed scrutiny, Bea grabbed her training materials and traveled statewide.

For the last 5 years, Bea has been assisting Dr. Judy Heumann, the Assistant Secretary of Education,
leading the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) in developing and monitoring special education for the country. On this current visit Dr. Judy Heumann and Bea stopped at the Fairfield Inn and facilitated an open seminar on the implementation of the final IDEA Regulations disseminated in February of 1999. Several parent support groups expressed serious concerns about New Mexico Schools' lack of appropriate services.
