New Civil Legal Services Commission Grant for Protection and Advocacy

A Civil Legal Services Commission grant has been awarded to Protection & Advocacy. Under this grant, we will be able to assist persons with disabilities in two areas: reduction in level of guardianship and assisting families receiving Temporary Aid to Needy Families (TANF) benefits. Assistance will be provided for up to 5 consumers who have income that is at or below 125% of federal poverty levels to prevent or challenge restrictive guardianships where there is a reasonable chance of success. We will also represent up to 5 persons with disabilities or persons who are caring for family members with disabilities who are faced with termination of their TANF benefits because they have reached the 5-year lifetime limitation. Cases will be considered where there are reasonable grounds for the continuation of benefits.
